The History of the People’s Republic of Midtown
The People’s Republic of Midtown was started in early 2020 by M. Christian Davis and Dorée Anderson as an effort to get supplies and food to our unhoused and in-need neighbors via direct action – meeting peoples’ needs where they are at.
The effort soon was named “The People’s Republic of Midtown” and began actively engaging our community to help supply various pressing needs made urgent by the Covid-19 Pandemic.
We continue to participate in various community actions such as Tuesday at Reno City Plaza supporting Family Soup efforts, getting warm clothing and socks to people in need, handing out food and hygiene kits, sharing information, and generally connecting resources and people in our community. It is our fervent wish that we can provide some help and hope to our neighbors.
The People’s Republic of Midtown currently accepts supplies via our Amazon Wishlist or picked up directly from community members. We distribute supplies as often as we have them. We also curate a resource and information list on our site and maintain a Facebook Group to keep on top of current local needs and actions.
The People’s Republic of Midtown is in the process of becoming a 501c3 non-profit organization.
